Happy almost sweater weather!

Posted by Holly Marshall on

It’s not quite officially fall and the sunshine is still going strong, but it’s on its way. Sweater Weather is so very near! 😊

To celebrate all things pumpkin, we’re having our 2nd annual Pumpkin Palooza. Thank you, Carol Herman (Knit Equals Joy) for the beautiful pumpkin patch/display!! Patterns and inspiration will be available in the shop beginning this Saturday

We had hopes that by this time restrictions would be lifted and we’d be able to get together again as normal. Sadly this isn’t the case. But we’ll make the best of it and stay safe at the same time. Masks are required inside the shop and at any outside gatherings. Yes, we all hate them but it’s worth it simply to care for one another. Please also be aware of how close you’re standing inside the shop. You may not be worried about it, but someone else may be-with good reason. We’ll also be utilizing our outside space and our beautiful Oregon autumn weather with outside classes.

One of the perks of being a small business owner is you get to make the rules. My number 1 rule is to serve the customer (you). We still have curbside pick-up if you’d like to use it. Just place your order on our website, add curbside pickup with an approximate time in the notes section, and call us when you’ve arrived. If you’re not able to place an order online, just give us a call. We’re happy to help in whatever way we can.

Classes & Happenings

Because they’ve been so well received, we’re again offering needle felting classes taught by Audrey Comerford of Wee Woollies. In addition to learning and/or honing a craft, these classes have been great at facilitating fun and community! Please call or email the shop to sign up.

Needle Felting Class – Jellyfish

Saturday, September 18 from 10:30 am to 12:30- Wild Knits

Cost: $35 + $15 materials

Needle felting is a fun and great way to expand your fiber arts knowledge. These jellyfish look complicated but are a great class for beginners, as well as seasoned felters. All supplies required for this class are included and you’ll leave with a finished project, felting knowledge, a felting block and needle.

Needle Felting Class – Pumpkin

Felt yourself a sweet little pumpkin just in time for fall decorating! This class will teach basic needle felting shapes, making it possible to create more complex pieces in the future. All needed supplies for this class are included. You’ll leave with a finished pumpkin, felting knowledge, a felting block and needle.

Needle Felting Class – Pumpkin

Saturday, October 9 from 10:30 am to 12:30- Wild Knits

In case you can’t make the first one, we’re offering a second pumpkin class! All the above applies, only the date has changed.

Socktober

We’ve declared October Socktober. How could we not? They ‘pair’ so perfectly! There will be two parts to this special month:

First, We’ve had many customers express an interest in learning to knit socks. We’ll knit a pair of basic socks one at a time on two circular needles. Since having classes inside isn’t ideal right now, we’ll be working this one a little differently. We’ll have three people to a session, including the instructor.

Time slots will be available Thurs, Fri and Sat., so you can choose what works best with your schedule. The cost is $20 per session. If you’re completely new to socks, you may want three sessions: 1) cast on and leg, 2) gusset and heal, and 3) toe decreases and grafting.  If you need help in only one or two areas, sign up for one or two sessions. If you don’t see a time that works for you, please let us know. We’ll work it out.

Second, We want you to put your best foot forward, so we’re having a sock contest. As much as we love knitting/crocheting, sometimes we need a reminder that we’re having fun. Therefore, the most important criteria for our sock contest are fun and creativity. Entries must have a traditional sock structure (leg, heal, foot, toe) and be wearable (nothing you’d hang on the mantle at the holidays), but we won’t be scrutinizing every stitch. Do nice work and pick a pattern you’ll have fun with! Pin your name, phone number and email inside the sock with a pear pin. Entries can be brought in any time during the month, but no later than Friday, October 29.

New Inventory

JaM PDX

We’ve received a big box of fun (with more coming) from JaM PDX, including ladybug and perennial yarn bowls (these hold a good-sized ball of yarn and have a lid to keep it from jumping out), RBG mugs (we were lucky to get these as they’re typically only available directly from the company), and of course the sassy knitting mugs and travel mugs. Any of the above make great gifts for those holidays just around the corner.

Knitted Wit

We’re restocked on National Parks, including some new ones to the shop. These are single ply, fingering weight and full of happy, rich colors. Plus, we’re really excited about the new Dolly line! If you hadn’t noticed, we’re fans and we snatched up this yarn as soon as we saw it. We have full skeins in DK superwash, and mini fingering weight gems in Dolly and Little Black Dress (great stocking stuffers btw). Dolly stitch markers from A Needle Runs Through are coming soon!

Forelife Teaware

We have new really sweet teapots and teacups. Tea for one (a stacking pot and mug), clear mugs and pots plus the new D’Anjou line. I bought my husband a tea for one set a few years ago for Christmas. He took it to the office, still uses it, and still loves it. I also bought one for my mom, who told me she used it often. (A popular gift from me that year!)

Needle Felting Kits

We’ve seen the interest in felting really grow since opening and just recently brought in several new kits (including weaving kits). These are fun for adults, as well as older kids. A great gift for kids and grandkids or a great project to work on together. The finished product usually makes you smile!

In addition to the above, new orders from Lopi, Blu Fiber (a fabulous new Portland Indy dyer), and Hedgehog are heading this way in the near future.

Period of Purple Crying Hats

If you’ve been meaning to get your infant hat donation to the shop, now is the time! Please bring it in no later than Saturday, October 23, so we can deliver them to local hospitals. A big thank you to Kelly for organizing this project and designing the sweet little hats. And a big thank you to Bridget and Kelly for all that yarn winding, weighing and packing! If you’d still like a pattern, the Baby Love Newborn Caps are available in Kelly Forster’s Ravelry store.

We so appreciate your continued support. Stay safe and healthy!!

-Holly
