Spring 2021 Events Coming Up!

Posted by Holly Marshall on

Happy Spring!! Is it just me, or has it been a really long winter?! We truly hope you’re doing well. We have a lot of upcoming fun we’re excited to share, but know these plans are made still keeping Covid in mind. There’s light at the end of this tunnel, but we’re not letting our guard down yet.

The Salem Capitol Cherry Blossoms are in bloom and just a short walk from our shop! A springtime "must-visit"!

April-May is Part 1 and June-July Part 2 of our Fibre Co. Road to China Light Trunk Show

Fibre Co. carries some amazing yarn, but this one is my favorite. RTCL is sport weight, 65% alpaca, 15% silk, 10% cashmere goat and 10% camel. How can you not love that?! It’s soft and dreamy with rich color and a slight natural shimmer. It’s also light and lofty, which makes it perfect for warm weather projects. We hope you’ll stop in to see these beautiful knits. During the trunk show all RTCL will be 10% off!

Just one of the many types of purple yarns we have in stock!

April 28 begins our Period of Purple Crying Awareness Event

Purple hats are given to new parents at hospitals along with information on shaken baby syndrome and infant abuse. This information is to prepare them for the fact that baby’s cry and how to handle this new experience. Purple hats are a tangible reminder as they leave the hospital of what they’ve learned.

The Period of Purple Crying cause is especially dear to Kelly Forster, and she’s designed four sweet infant hat patterns to help bring awareness to the program. Patterns are exclusively available at Wild Knits in kits, and you can choose the two kit option or the 4 kit option. A new pattern and kit will be released one week at a time. Among other things, each kit will include the new pattern, yarn to make the hat in the color option of your choice, and extra yarn for a donated hat for local Hospitals. It’s always nice to have a stash of hand knits for that next baby gift, or you may choose to donate both hats. Either way, you’ll feel good about knitting these.

To help us know how many kits we’ll need, we’re taking preorders now. If you’d like to take part in this important cause, please email or call the shop.

"At 34, Christen is unemployed and lonely when, on a whim, she decides to knit a half-mile blue line from a bench to Bellingham Bay, a decision that cracks open a world of social interaction with her lovable and quirky neighbors."

Book Club

We’ve chosen our first book!! Skein, by Christen Mattix, is a story of contemplation, life decisions, and community, all while knitting. I found this book in the local section of Village Books in Bellingham, WA. At that time, my plans for a shop were just beginning to become a reality. When I read this, I knew it was something I’d stock. Christine is a delight and I think you’ll appreciate her story.

We have books available for purchase, and we plan to start meeting in May. We’ll be in the courtyard (6 feet apart) to talk, share, snack and knit. We’re still welcoming input from you on when you’d like to meet... weekdays, evenings, weekends... so let us know your thoughts.

To help us with ordering, please let us know asap if you’d like a book.

We are so excited to participate in another Local Yarn Store Day! https://localyarnstoreday.com/

LYS Day April 17

In our online shopping world, LYS day was started to help support and bring business to local yarn shops. This seems especially relevant in our Covid climate. We’ll have treats, free patterns with purchase, exclusive LYS yarn colors by Alexandra, The Art of Yarn, and special items we’ve put together to celebrate. We hope you’ll stop by!

We’re still limiting the number of people in the shop, so please do a quick headcount before entering.

Wild Road Trip KAL, Memorial Day - Labor Day

As you plan your summer adventures and accompanying knits, we hope you’ll consider our PNW Adventure KAL. We’re really, REALLY excited with what we’ve come up with. There are seven projects with two optional bonus patterns. All have been strategically chosen to be doable and to create a fun trip. You can choose to knit one, some, or all. The patterns are named after or related to the PNW, and as we knit and complete items, we’ll be on a virtual road trip, complete with passports, postcards, souvenirs, and prizes!! We will be announcing more details soon, but we hope you’ll plan to join us on our adventures!! (Feel free to invite a travel buddy!)

New to the shop!

In addition to the above events, we have several orders of amazing yarn headed our way. Blue Sky Fiber Co. has a new yarn!! That’s all I can say for now, but it will be available in the shop beginning April 12!! We also have orders coming from Malabrigo, Three Fates, Blu Fiber (not to be confused with Blue Sky Fiber), Hazel Knits, and Hedgehog Fibers. Plus, we recently received orders from Imperial Fiber, Boss Kitty, Manos del Uruguay and Skacel!!

More details on our events will be released as the dates get closer, but please let us know if you have any questions. We’ve felt your support during these past crazy months, and it’s appreciated more than we can possibly say.

THANK YOU and here’s to brighter days ahead!!

Holly
