Olive Knits January Workshop KAL

We are brimming with excitement to be tagging along with Marie Greene of Olive Knits as she leads us on a merry adventure through Bavaria in the January Workshop KAL. Every year the January Workshop KAL focuses on a different heritage knitting style, and Marie designs a sweater inspired by techniques from that culture. In addition to lessons about the specific knitting techniques found in the pattern, the team at Olive Knits puts together recipes and lessons on the knitting history of the culture of focus. It's not just a knitting workshop that guides you through a sweater, but also a way to explore a culture through knitting from the comfort of your own home.

This year, Marie is taking it a step further by traveling to location in Munich to bring us to the heart of Bavaria. Her sweater this year is called Brezel (German for pretzel), a steeked cardigan knit using the traditional Bavarian techniques of twisted stitch knitting and reverse stockinette. Check out the presale for the workshop on the Olive Knits website HERE!

As a featured vendor for the January Workshop KAL, Wild Knits has put together a little collection of yarns we recommend for the Brezel sweater. Berroco's Lanas Light and The Fiber Company's Arranmore Light are both traditional crunchy wools in sport weight that will show twisted stitches beautifully. Lanas Light is a softly heathered lighter weight option, while Arranmore Light is a tweed with a little bit of cashmere thrown in for ultimate squishiness. We also have Malabrigo Arroyo for those who would prefer a superwash option.

As a little extra incentive, we are offering 10% off on sweater quantities (3 or more skeins) of our featured yarns and are including a little Wild Knits project bag as a gift with purchase! Use discount code jankal2023 at checkout. We hope you will join us in exploring Bavarian knitting, food, and culture!
